“Inside”: What is it about?
Nemo (Willem Dafoe) is a gifted art thief who is planning a very profitable coup. He wants to break into a New York penthouse to steal five paintings by the Austrian expressionist Egon Schiele. But the plan fails when the sophisticated security system traps him in the apartment. He loses contact with his accomplice, but he also has no access to the outside world. The criminal is increasingly reaching his limits physically and mentally – as the imprisonment lasts for months.

Why “Inside” is worth a viewing
The premise that a character has to fight for survival while trapped somewhere in claustrophobic confines is certainly not new. But “Inside” does things a little differently. Because Nemo, portrayed by Dafoe, sees his life threatened in the midst of all the valuable art treasures that could bring him so much wealth. All the money and the comfortable luxury apartment contrast so starkly with what the clever robber wants most over time: a life of freedom. In this setting, Vasilis Katsoupis’ thriller skilfully breaks down what really matters – and that has nothing to do with material wealth.
Willem Dafoe brilliantly embodies the role of the perpetrator who becomes a victim out of sheer greed. From a self-confident thief bursting with ingenuity and criminal energy, over time he becomes a hopeless prisoner who is taught a real lesson here. So if you like oppressive, claustrophobic thrillers with first-class character actors, you should definitely watch the film.
