The Secretary of Health confirmed that the application of the bivalent vaccines that protect against two variants of Covid-19 -the original, detected in Wuhan, China, and the mutation called Ómicron; and are added to the strategy as a booster dose.
The vaccine that is added to the public, free and optional Provincial Plan against COVID-19 Buenos Aires Vaccinate is the Comirnaty Bivalent Original/Ómicron BA.4-5, from the Pfizer/BioNtech laboratory, authorized for use in the general population aged 12 years or older. more, according to the guidelines of the national health portfolio.
It is called bivalent since it is produced with genetic material that codes for the S (Spike) protein of the SARS-CoV-2 ancestral variant and of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.4-5 variant.
The health authorities remarked that this new bivalent vaccine, -as well as the monovalent ones- is safe and effective to provide protection against hospitalizations, complications and deaths against all circulating variants. Both types of sera will coexist in the national and provincial vaccination strategy.
Who can receive this vaccine?
All people over 12 years of age who have received a monovalent vaccine (primary or booster scheme) 4 months or more ago. Like the other doses, the minimum interval of four months from the last dose received must be maintained.
COVID vaccines to be used according to age groups:
For children up to 5 years: Pediatric vaccine.
For children from 6 to 11 years: Pediatric monovalent vaccine.
For ages 12 and up:
For primary scheme doses, monovalent.
For reinforcements, monovalent and bivalent.
