The overall Lille educational project includes a section on children in the city providing for the creation of a “city at child height” laboratory.
In Lille, the place of children has been a long-standing subject for this “Child-Friendly City” since 2003, a label managed by Unicef, and which created a municipal children’s council in 1999. The city has taken a further step with a conference organized in 2017 as part of the network of educating cities. Thierry Paquot, urban philosopher and Clément Rivière, sociologist, two child-like thinkers of the city, were invited and strongly influenced the work of elected officials. “It seemed extremely important to us to initiate discussions across all services. The conference was a trigger,” explains Charlotte Brun, deputy delegate to the city for children in Lille.
An eclectic laboratory
