ABU DHABI: An innovative test method for detecting cancer cells has been launched at Sheikh Shakhbooth Medical City in Abu Dhabi. The new test is for patients with B-cell acute lymphocytic leukemia (B-ALL).
Minimal residual disease (MRD) testing by flow cytometry is used to determine whether cancer cells remain after treatment in these patients. This is effective for better diagnosis and monitoring. B-ALL is a leukemia that occurs when abnormal B-lymphocytes are overproduced. These white blood cells help the body fight infection.
When cancerous B-lymphocytes accumulate in the blood and bone marrow, they attack healthy blood cells. It impairs the body’s immune system. Early detection and appropriate treatment can help reduce the severity of the disease.
