WhatsApp is planning a new feature. The innovation is intended to simplify communication with other people. What’s behind it.

Munich – WhatsApp, the popular messenger service, continually surprises its users with innovative features. The company is currently planning to make writing and understanding messages in different languages much easier with an automatic translation function. This function, which is expected to be introduced with the new version 2.24.15.12, could revolutionize global communication behavior and break down language barriers.

The planned feature of WhatsApp will allow users to translate chat messages in real time. This innovation is currently available in beta version for Android 2.24.15.12 and could significantly improve the communication experience for millions of users. As the portal WABetaInfo reported, users will soon have the option to set the app to automatically translate all messages.

It is extremely user-friendly: users select the desired translation language and WhatsApp downloads the required language packs. Once the message is translated, a notification appears in the message field confirming that the translation was successful. This method ensures that the original meaning of the message is preserved and misunderstandings are avoided.

WhatsApp’s planned feature: Automatic translation for smooth communication

A key advantage of this feature is that all translations are performed directly on the device. This means that end-to-end encryption is maintained and no data is sent to external servers, as WABetaInfo reports. WhatsApp uses a specially developed technology for this that protects user privacy while allowing for smooth integration into the app. WhatsApp has also recently introduced new features in terms of video options.

At launch, automatic translation will be available for a limited number of languages, including English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Hindi. More languages, including German, will be added in future updates. This selection already covers a large part of the global user base.

Support for multiple languages – German is not included at the moment

The new feature is particularly helpful in situations where users communicate in groups with different language backgrounds. A typical example is an international shared apartment where messages are often written in different languages. With the new translation function, users no longer have to laboriously copy individual messages into external translation apps, but can follow the conversation fluently.

Although the feature is currently being tested in beta, everything indicates that WhatsApp will soon release it for all Android and iPhone users. However, WhatsApp will soon no longer be available for certain phone models. Users with the KaiOS operating system are particularly affected.

The developers are constantly working to improve the function and expand the number of languages supported. Another new feature on WhatsApp allows images to be generated in the chat using AI. (ls)

Transferring old chat histories to your new phone? Not that easy. With a new update, WhatsApp wants to make this function much easier.
