Innalillahi, Founder of the First Sharia Bank Died

Saeed Lootah, founder of the world’s first Islamic bank and leading businessman in Dubai, passed away. Saeed Lootah died at the age of 97.

The condolences were conveyed by the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid through his Twitter account.

“He is a trader who started his business from scratch, and touched many aspects of Dubai’s economy. I know him as a person who is smart, wise and calm,” Sheikh Mohammed was quoted as saying by thenational.ae, Tuesday (6/30/2020).

Besides Sheikh Mohammed, the Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), also gave condolences to the founder of the Islamic bank through his official Twitter account.

“We are very saddened by the death of Haji Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah, founder of the Dubai Islamic Bank. Our success and legacy of being the first Islamic Bank became a reality because of its vision and dedication,” DIB said on his Twitter account.

In January, DIB completed the acquisition of Al Noor Bank, in an agreement that would create one of the largest Islamic banks in the world, with total assets of more than 275 billion dirhams.

“The Islamic financial industry is saddened by the loss of our pioneer, Haji Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah,” Iqbal Khan, chief executive of Capital Fajr, said on Twitter. “We owe it to him and so much to the industry, we are indebted,” he continued.
