Inmates with dengue fever, the Tulungagung office fogging the prison room

Tulungagung – The Tulungagung Health Service (Dinkes) team carried out fumigation or fogging efforts in Class II B Prisons. That was after one case was found. Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Fumigation is carried out throughout the prison room.

Three health officials equipped with fogging equipment walked around the seven residential blocks of the prison, spraying smoke to kill adult mosquitoes. The fumigation also targets a number of supporting facilities. Such as mosques, workshops, to service rooms.

The Head of Section for Guidance for Prisoners / Students and Work Activities (Binadik Giatja) Class IIB Tulungagung Prison, said the fogging activity was deliberately carried out after one of the inmates confirmed positive for DHF and had to undergo treatment at the hospital.

“Initially there was one inmate from an alcoholic case who was sick, after we took him to the Dr. Iskak Hospital it turned out to be positive for DHF. Then last Monday we coordinated with the Health Office to ask for fumigation,” said Imam Fahmi, Tuesday (15/2/2022).

Prior to fogging, officers first conducted an epidemiological investigation around the location. In order to break the chain of transmission, finally all prison rooms were fumigated.

According to him, the fumigation is expected to kill adult mosquitoes that cause dengue fever, so that the number of inmates who are infected with dengue fever does not increase.

Meanwhile, the Tulungagung Class II B prison doctor, Dr. Ahmad Hati Nurwanto, said that in order to tackle the spread of dengue fever, his party claimed to continue to make efforts to clean the prison environment. Starting from draining the bathtub to waste management.

“For the bathtub, we asked to clean it every day, then we also asked for the garbage to be focused on one point and thrown away every day. So it doesn’t not accommodate rainwater which can cause larvae to grow,” he added.

Separately confirmed by the Head of Disease Prevention and Management at the Tulungagung Health Office, Didik Eka confirmed the fogging. According to him, the findings of dengue cases are a serious concern from the health department, because the environment is inhabited by 694 inmates and detainees.

“Yes, this is our concern. Dense environmental conditions have a greater risk of DHF transmission, because mosquitoes will easily move from place to place and look for other targets,” said Didik.

It is hoped that the fogging program can break the chain of dengue transmission. However, his party reminded the inmates to continue to carry out the 3M movement to minimize the emergence of dengue fever.

“PSN (mosquito nest eradication) is the main key to prevention” DBD. So don’t be careless,” he added.
