The Secretariat of Protection and Citizen Security of the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí reported this Thursday an attempted riot inside the La Pila prison, located in the capital, according to various national media.
The inmates would have protested the operation launched by the public security forces to proceed with the transfer of 51 inmates to other prisons in the region, such as Tamazunchale, Rioverde and Ciudad Valles.
The agency reports that while the operation was in progress, two palm trees were set on fire in the central courtyard of the prison.
Likewise, it also indicates that some prisoners were “reluctant”, so coordinated work is being carried out “for the stabilization of the penitentiary center and the remaining population.”
The flames from the fire outbreaks reached heights of several meters, so they could be observed from outside the prison.
According to the Telediario media, which cites unofficial information, there were two inmates injured as a result of the fire, although this has not been confirmed by the authorities.
