Dozens of prison inmates in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, led riots calling for urgent health measures, after confirming the presence of a new infection with the Corona virus inside the facility.
Sources – as quoted by Russia Today news channel Saturday – said that the police cordoned off the “Villa Devoto” prison, which includes about 2,200 inmates in the Argentine capital, while explosions were heard.
A group of prisoners ascended to the roof of the building and burned a number of curtain covers, throwing objects at the guards who tried to repel them .. The authorities did not comment on the riots, and did not give details about the possibility of injuries.
Several other riots erupted in prisons last week, including in Florencio Varela in the Buenos Aires region, where a prisoner died and 20 were injured.
Argentina has imposed quarantine measures since March 20, and has recorded more than 3,400 infections and 167 deaths from the Coronavirus.
