The inmate escaped Wednesday from a Manhattan hospital where he had been admitted for a heart-related problem. The police are appealing for witnesses to find him.
The New York police are on alert. An inmate hospitalized at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan after suffering a heart condition escaped from the facility on Wednesday. The man managed to reach the public road by descending from the fifth floor using a makeshift rope, say in particular ABC and the New York Post.
Arrested on July 31 because he had very controlled substances, the nature of which our colleagues do not specify, the 44-year-old was hospitalized on Friday. On Wednesday afternoon, when orderlies came to escort him to the bathroom to wash up, he reportedly asked for several towels.
Seeing that he was taking a long time to get out of the bathroom, the caregivers entered the room. It was there that they found that it was empty and that the window was open: by attaching the towels to each other, the prisoner managed to escape.
An appeal for witnesses launched by the police
After rappelling down a few floors, he managed to reach a slightly lower roof, then landed with a ladder safely on the sidewalk. He then fled in a taxi.
This Thursday, the Department of Corrections and the New York Police Department are still on his trail. By broadcasting photos of the man in question leaving the establishment, his hospital bracelet still hanging on his wrist, the police hope to obtain testimonies from people who met him in his flight.
