Up until the end it was very exciting in inline hockey in the Bundesliga. On the last day of the match, the teams in the first three places in the table were only one point apart. The league victory was possible for everyone. For the Red Dragons from Altenberg that meant: They had to win both games.
They played their first game against United Pink Wings from Vienna. The Altenbergerinnen were able to exert pressure right from the start and won the game with a 7-0 victory. In the second meeting, the women had to face the top of the table from Wiener Neustadt. To win the championship title, Altenberg needed a win, while a draw was enough for their opponents.
The game was even, until shortly before the end of the game it was 0-0. After the Red Dragons needed a win for the title, coach Laurin Rauter decided to swap the goalkeeper for a fifth outfield player. The Altenbergerinnen were able to exert pressure again, but after losing the ball, the Neustädterinnen struck back and shot the ball into the empty goal. Thus, the Rollmöpse Altenberg lost the game with 0: 1 and ended the season in second place. The next goal is the European Cup in August.
The exciting phase of the Austrian championship is still ahead of the Bundesliga men. The Red Dragons have made it into the playoffs and are now fighting for the championship title. The regular round ended with an away game in Salzburg and the Altenbergers left the two highly competitive games once as a winner and once as a loser from the inline hockey table.
The Dragons were already qualified for the playoffs before the match day, but wanted to secure a top four place. First they met the Dark Vipers Salzburg and quickly fell 3-0 behind. The Altenberger fought their way back, equalized and finally won 8: 7. Against Vienna WAT XX it was the other way around. The dragons came into play well, settled 3-0 and then had to accept the equalizer. Six seconds before the end, the Viennese scored 5: 4 and catapulted themselves into the quarter-finals. Altenberg finished the regular round in fourth place in the table.
In the quarter-finals on Saturday, 6 p.m., you will meet HC Mad Dogs Wiener Neustadt away from home. Altenberg has the home advantage in the second leg on July 17th. The winner of the series plays for the national championship at the final tournament in Salzburg.
