Inland man suspected of manslaughter in family’s death arrested following accident

The 33-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the fatal accident in Sprang-Capelle on March 10 is suspected of manslaughter. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) announced this on Friday. A family from Raamsdonksveer died in the accident.

The accident took place on the A59 near Sprang-Capelle in Brabant. Four cars were involved in the accident, including the suspect’s car. A family was in one of the other vehicles. The 46-year-old father, 46-year-old mother and their two children aged 13 and 10 were killed.

Earlier this week it appeared that the man from Zevenbergschen Hoek had consumed too much alcohol and had used drugs. The man was arrested on Wednesday for involvement in the accident. He was due to appear before the examining magistrate on Friday.

The man is now suspected of manslaughter. Not only had he used narcotics, the initial investigation also showed that he was speeding. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the man drove his car “in such a way that there is conditional intent to kill the deceased family”.

The man will remain in custody for at least two weeks. Meanwhile, the investigation into the accident continues.
