Setback for <a href="http://www.world-today-news.com/1-fc-koln-talents-with-prospects/" title="1. FC Köln: talents with prospects”>Etienne Borie: The aspiring midfielder of 1. FC Köln was seriously injured in the Uerdingen game. The 18-year-old will be out for the time being with a broken foot.
Etienne Borie’s upswing has stopped for the time being. The attacking midfielder only moved up from the U19 team to the regional league team in the summer – and played his way into the spotlight there with strong performances. The 18-year-old has made ten appearances for the U21s so far – but he will have to wait some time for his eleventh.
In the most recent duel against KFC Uerdingen, Borie had to be substituted at half-time. “He’s sprained,” said Sbonias shortly after the final whistle, “we have to see what it is.” The coach is now certain: Borie suffered a broken foot and will be missing from FC for at least a few weeks; in the worst case scenario, the calendar year will be over for the lively offensive spirit.
Who will replace Borie?
This means that the central position behind the leaders is currently vacant. Theoretically, Meiko Waschenbach would be one of the candidates for this. The 20-year-old will probably also be scheduled for the left-back position in Wuppertal on Friday if he is in the squad. It therefore seems more realistic that either Georg Strauch will move back to the ten from right back after Meiko Sponsel’s recovery. Arda Süne could also be considered as a Borie replacement.
The injury comes at an inopportune time for Borie, as the talent is fighting for a new contract. The two-footed midfielder’s current working paper ends next summer. However, with his previous appearances, Borie may have already collected some positive points both at Geißbockheim and at potential other clubs. In September, Borie was even called up to the professionals during the international break. This would probably have been the case in the most recent interruption had he not been seriously injured.
