Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Masters series tournament in Indian Wells (USA) due to injury, which will be held from March 6 to 19. This was reported on Twitter of the tournament.
Nadal was injured during a match with American Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of the Australian Open. He was diagnosed with a muscle injury in his leg, due to which the 36-year-old Spaniard should miss six to eight weeks.
Previously, he was already from tournaments in Doha and Dubai, as well as from an exhibition match with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, which was supposed to be held on March 5 in Las Vegas. Nadal is now eighth in the ATP rankings and is likely to leave the top 10 after the tournament in Indian Wells. He has been in the top 10 for almost 18 years (since April 2005), which is a record.
Rafael Nadal lost to the 65th racket of the world and flew out of the Australian Open
Last year at the Masters in Indian Wells, Nadal reached the final, where he lost to American Taylor Fritz. He will lose 600 points, now his advantage over the 11th-placed Pole Hubert Hurkacz is less than 300 points.
In certain scenarios, Nadal may leave the top 10 even after the tournament in Dubai, which takes place this week. To do this, Hurkacs must reach the final, the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime – to the 1/4 finals, and the Dane Holger Rune – to the semi-finals.
