ANGELHOLM. The USA turned and the JVM gene rope after a tackle on Jakob Norén.
The back’s condition worries before the opener against Latvia.
– When we know exactly, I will take it further, says union captain Magnus Hävelid.
After the 4–2 victory against Switzerland, the Junior crowns stood for a fine first period in the JVM general rep against the USA.
But the 2–0 lead would turn around and become a 3–5 loss.
After a reduction from the USA in the second period came a situation that put further obstacles in Sweden’s wheel. Fullback Jakob Norén tripped on a tackle from Frank Nazar and was led out with a bloody face.
Dropped after the tackle
The tackle was judged to be within the rules of the game, which upset Sweden’s booth. The junior crowns lost focus and then Cutter Gauthier was able to equalize to 2–2.

– We lose that duel, if you say so. We give them a power play, which they score on, instead of keeping their cool, says Malmö forward Anton Wahlberg.
He was the first to come forward and confront Nazar:
– I just highlighted that we stand up for each other in the team. I was in front and just marked
What did you say to him?
– Inge especially, that it was the last time he did something like that. I don’t really remember, says Wahlberg who did not like the tackle from Nazar.
– I saw it on the ice and I think it blows my mind, but the judges see something else and they are always right.
In the final period, the USA trailed to 2–5 before Felix Unger Sörum scored a consolation goal.
Even before the match, the teams agreed to play extra time regardless of the result. There, the USA decided after just 15 seconds.
“It’s tricky”
After the match, the national team captain Magnus Hävelid gave a cautiously positive message about Jakob Norén.
– I spoke to “Jacke” now. Right now he is sitting and is relatively okay, but as Ryan (Allenby, team doctor) said, we are keeping him under observation and then you have to take it from there, says Hävelid.
Are you worried it’s a concussion?
– I’ll let Ryan follow him up here now, according to the protocols and schedules that apply. When I talk to him he seems to be doing relatively well but it’s tricky with these types of situations. I’ll listen to Ryan and we’ll take it from tomorrow.
Sweden must register its squad on December 25.
How do you reason if it would be a concussion?
– When we know exactly, I will take it further. Then we get to take it in the coaching group.
The Junior WC is played in Scandinavium in Gothenburg and begins on December 26. Sweden plays its opening match against Latvia.
