The Houston Texans suffered a setback in the fight for the NFL playoffs. They lost out surprisingly clearly against the New York Jets. They also had to cope with the loss of an offensive duo. Among other things, CJ Stroud could be out for the time being.
The rookie quarterback hit his head hard on the ground late in the game after a tackle by Quinnen Williams and suffered a concussion.
Stroud was even on the ground for a few minutes, which is why it can be assumed that he was hit a little harder. Accordingly, his use for Week 15, when the Texans meet the Tennessee Titans, is uncertain.
The Texans blamed their quarterback’s injury within their own ranks, namely on the offensive line. “When we hit against CJ, we have to block better. We can’t allow our quarterback to get to us like that, we have to block better,” explained head coach DeMeco Ryans.
In fact, the Texans’ offensive line had its problems against the strong Jets front. According to Next Gen Stats, Stroud was pressured on 44% of his dropbacks and recorded four sacks and six hits.
Texans guard Shaq Mason also thinks it’s too much: “The O-line as a whole wasn’t good enough today, for various reasons,” was the offensive lineman’s conclusion.
NFL: Receiver problems continue
At the time of Stroud’s injury, however, the game had already been decided. This was mainly due to the fact that the NFL’s passing leader and his offense did not get into the game.
The problems of the offensive line have already been addressed, but Stroud also lost another passing position in Nico Collins. The wide receiver had to go into the dressing room with a calf injury after the first drive and did not return to the game.
The receiving hopes in Houston actually rested on Collins after Tank Dell was injured the previous week and was out for the rest of the season.
