London: England left-back Ben Chilwell will not play the World Cup in Qatar. Chelsea officials have confirmed that the player will miss the World Cup after injuring a muscle in his thigh during the Champions League match against Dynamo Sug Rib.
Chilwell said it was painful to lose the World Cup dream. Chilwell was competing with Manchester United’s Luke Shaw for a place on the left side of the English defense. Newcastle United’s Kieron Trippier has a chance with the Chelsea player out.
As the World Cup approaches, England manager Gareth Southgate’s pain increases in the form of injuries. Chelsea right-back Reece James, Manchester City midfielder Calvin Phillips and right-back Kyle Walker are injured. It is not certain that everyone will be injury free by the 13th of this month when the final squad is announced.
