Good news, for Renaud Lavillenie, after being scared about ten days ago: the illustrious 34-year-old pole vaulter will take part in the Tokyo Olympics, for which he flew Thursday, July 22, 2021. Proof that he recovered – sufficiently, if not totally – from his sprained left foot, occurred at Sotteville-lès-Rouen (Seine-Maritime), on July 11.
His Tokyo “dream”
It was on his Twitter account that the athlete posted a photo of him with his luggage, all smiles. “It’s that time of year! The one where you are about to fly away to live a dream once more ”. On July 21, video of a post-injury jump in support, he explained to his Twitter community that he had been able to resume his training, after “many hours of care and work”. And to add: “the ankle reacts rather well, it is reassuring and encouraging for the days to come…”
A new medal?
As a reminder, Renaud Lavillenie was injured during the international athletics meeting in Sotteville-lès-Rouen on Sunday July 11, following a poor reception on the mat. A few hours later, still on the social network, he indicated that the worst scenario, the one where he would have been diagnosed with a fracture rather than a sprain, was ruled out.
In a week’s time, the 34-year-old will pass the pole vault qualifications, possibly earning a third consecutive Olympic medal, after gold and silver. Last winter he was erected as the second best performer in the world of the year, with an impressive jump from 6.06 meters above the ground. Go Renaud!
