In the night between Sunday and Monday, the body of a 31-year-old man was found in Walsoorden in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. After an accident with an off-road vehicle, the man was transferred to another street where he died of his injuries, a police spokesman told NU.nl. Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The victim comes from Clinge, a village in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen on the Belgian border. The two arrested are a 36-year-old resident of Ossenisse and a 24-year-old from Kuitaart.
Police received a report of an accident on the Mariadijk at around 11.45pm. However, the victim and the suspects were found in the street behind it, precisely in the Walsoordensestraat.
The accident with the off-road vehicle, a kind of quad with a large container on the back, took place on private property on the Mariadijk. According to the spokesman, the victim suffered serious injuries to the head and back.
The two suspects then loaded the victim into a car and drove to the Walsoordensestraat. After reporting an unknown caller, 911 was promptly on the scene, but rescue and resuscitation were unsuccessful.
The spokesman speaks of a “suspicious situation” and arrested the two men for having caused a fatal road accident. “A lot is still unclear, but we are investigating further,” the police spokesman said.
