FC Barcelona seems to have to do without Robert Lewandowski on Thursday in the first match against arch-rival Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey. The top striker is injured.
Barcelona reports in a short message on Twitter on Monday that 34-year-old Lewandowski has suffered a hamstring injury. It is still unclear how long he will have to recover from it.
However, Thursday’s El Clásico against Real seems to come too early for Lewandowski, who is important for Barcelona this season. In 31 official matches, the former striker of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund scored 25 times.
The semi-finals of the Copa del Rey are as usual over two games. After Thursday’s meeting in Santiago Bernabéu, Barcelona and Real will meet on March 19 at Camp Nou.
In between, Barcelona plays at home against relegation candidate Valencia and away against mid-engine Athletic Club. It remains to be seen whether Lewandowski will make it to those games.
FC Barcelona is having a strong season, but is in a slump for a while. One of the last four matches has been won. On Sunday evening, La Liga surprisingly lost 1-0 at Almería. Nevertheless, coach Xavi’s team is leading.
