Injured by ‘machete attack’ at former Charlie Hebdo office | Abroad

Police say the suspected perpetrator has been arrested in the vicinity of Place de la Bastille, an important square in the French capital. He was found in the street with bloody clothes, Le Parisien knows. It was previously reported that there may have been two perpetrators and that they were wanted.

The suspect would have worn a black vest and black sweatpants. The investigation is currently being led by the usual law enforcement team, not the special anti-terrorist unit.

Several media report that a knife was found on the spot. It would be a butcher knife or ‘machete’. A suspicious package would also have been delivered to the new address of the Charlie Hebdo editorial office. The package later turned out to be harmless, but is still under investigation.

The authorities are calling on people to stay away. Some schools in the area have also been closed as a precaution.

Injured

Of the four injured, two would be in critical condition. They have been taken to hospital. The victims are said to be employees of the French documentary production company Premières Lignes.

Police were driving through Paris with heavily armed teams and several vans after the incident. “My son was playing sports in the neighborhood,” a witness told Le Parisien. “He heard people shouting and saw a man running away with a large knife. There were injured women and men. We already lived here five years ago, of course, these are traumatic memories. ”

Attacks

In 2015, 12 people were killed in the satirical magazine when Muslim extremists attacked the editorial staff. In France, alleged accomplices of the extremists behind that massacre are now being tried. The French magazine re-published cartoons of the Islamic prophet Mohammed because of the start of that process.

Recently, Al-Qaeda has made new calls to carry out an attack on Charlie Hebdo. According to the police, the background to the incident is not yet known.
