INIA trained coffee producers to improve crop quality in Pichanaqui

The National Institute for Agrarian Innovation (INIA) transferred technologies and methodologies for the production of high genetic quality coffee crops, Castillo variety, for the benefit of small and medium producers in the Alto Shori population center, in the district of Pichanaqui, province of Chanchamayo, Junín region.

The transfer took place during a training course on a demonstration plot, organized by the INIA Pichanaqui Agricultural Experimental Station, within the framework of the Soils and Water project. The objective is for producers to increase the yield of their hectares and reduce the degradation of agricultural soils.

The technical workshop, part of the national campaign “Peru 2M: Know the fertility of your soil” promoted by INIA, included theoretical and practical work in the field, with techniques such as block and row pruning and organomineral fertilization, which improves soil conditions and ensures a supply of nutrients at lower costs.

Knowledge was also transferred on soil sampling techniques, management and conservation of degraded soils, and tissue management systems, in order to preserve soil quality and consolidate the sending of samples for analysis in INIA laboratories.

The “Peru 2M: Know the fertility of your soil” campaign seeks to identify the level of fertility of the agricultural soil in the district and raise awareness among producers about the importance of soil quality analysis for the success of each agricultural campaign.
