inhuman treatment of 2 teenage girls

Call for international investigation, accountability and sanctions against regime leaders

Of the recently released images showing the violent assault and inhumane treatment of two teenage girls, one of them 14 years old, by Iran’s vice police and state security forces for alleged dress code violations, shocked the international community.

According to the mother of one victim, physical evidence of the assault is still visible more than six weeks after the incident. The egregious nature of the incident even prompted security forces to state: “Such behavior by officers does not meet our operational standards. The case is currently under investigation by the FARAJA (the regime’s state security force) judicial and inspection system.”

This incident underscores the urgent need for international monitoring, calls for accountability for regime leaders, and appropriate sanctions in response to the brutal and inhumane treatment of women in Iran.

The Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran calls on the United Nations Human Rights Council, its High Commissioner, to Special Rapporteur on Iran and to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women to strongly condemn the repressive actions of the religious dictatorship. It also demands the immediate expulsion of the representatives of the regime from the relevant international bodies. The continued presence of representatives of this regime in these forums undermines the principles of human rights, women’s rights and the United Nations itself.
