The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (Inguat) and the company Línas Aéreas de España, SA (Iberia) signed a letter of understanding with the objective of strengthening and promoting ties between Guatemala and Europe, especially in tea terms of tourism.
The document was signed by the director of Inguat, Harris Whitbeck, and Fernando Candela, president of Iberia.
Whitbeck highlighted the strategic importance of the agreement, as it expands the visibility of Guatemala as a top-level tourist destination. Likewise, Iberia’s promotion channels and sales networks are taken advantage of, according to a note from the “Guatemalan News Agency.”
“Currently, Iberia serves as the direct link between Guatemala and Europe, with daily flights between both countries. This alliance aims to increase the number of passengers from Spain and the connections that the airline has with other destinations,” said the director of Inguat.
“The letter of understanding with Iberia represents significant progress in the effort to position Guatemala as one of the most prominent destinations in Latin America,” he added.

Europe tour
Last week, the Guatemalan president began an official tour of several European countries that included Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland.
This Thursday, in Madrid, Spain, he also met with King Felipe VI and the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez.
During his tour, Arévalo has been accompanied by Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mónica Bolaaños, and the private secretary of the Presidency, Ana Glenda Tager. He also accompanies the ruler’s wife, Lucrecia Peinado.
