When Ingrid Røynesdal met the staff at the National Museum on Tuesday, the new director quoted the composer Gustav Mahler: “Tradition is not to cultivate the ashes, but to keep the flame alive”. Røynesdal also spoke about the importance of quality in the National Museum’s collections.
This able to can be read as a different view of art than that which the former director Karin Hindsbo stood for. Together with collection director Stina Högkvist, Hindsbo had a more political approach, with an emphasis on, for example, anti-colonialism.
