A man died last Wednesday at the dementia ward at the health center in Sunndal in Nordmøre.
It was the newspaper Drive who mentioned the case first.
According to the man’s son, he must have ingested large amounts of snus, and this may have poisoned him.
The man turned 85 years old.
– Large intake snus
– I got a phone call at work where I was told that my father had been taken to hospital due to a large intake of snus, says his son Ivar Romundstad to Dagbladet and continues:
– The employees were sure that it was snus, because he had thrown up part of it.

Romunstad says that it was suggested from the health center that there was almost a whole box of snuff – and that it was easily accessible in one of the common rooms.
Romunstad and his wife were called by Molde Hospital and asked to come because their father was very ill.

Fell asleep
The man fell asleep the same night at Molde hospital.
– It is traumatic and heavy that it should happen in this way. This is a very unpleasant case for us. Fortunately, we are doing well according to the conditions, says Romundstad.
Romunstad is nevertheless satisfied with how the health center has followed them up after the incident.
– But for us it is important that it does not happen again. An easily accessible snus box has nothing to do in a dementia ward.

Municipal director in Sunndal, Randi Dyrnes, says that she can not go into what happened due to confidentiality. But she confirms that they have had a serious incident that led to deaths at Sunndal health park.
She says that the supervisory authorities and the police have been notified of the case.
