Frankfurt am Main, 15. August 2023 – ING Germany and the German Basketball Federation (DBB) today prematurely extended their sponsorship contract, which has been in place since 2003. ING Germany will remain the main sponsor of all German women’s, men’s and youth national teams until at least September 30, 2028. The new contract was signed during a ceremony marking 20 years of partnership with DBB at the bank’s headquarters in Frankfurt am Main. National coach Gordon Herbert and the national players Isaac Bonga, Justus Hollatz and David Krämer were also guests, who gave an outlook on the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. DBB record national player Patrick Femerling, DBB President Ingo Weiss and the CEO of ING in Germany, Nick Jue, took a look back at the successes and milestones of the past 20 years.
Nick Jue, CEO of ING in Germany on the partnership:
“We look back on 20 years with unforgettable sporting moments and many joint projects. This includes the great European Championships at home with the men’s bronze medal last year as well as many successes of the junior teams. We want to build on this and continue the successful cooperation with the DBB over the next five years. The early extension of the contract shows that both sides appreciate the partnership very much and we at ING are very happy to make the commitment to remain connected to German basketball in the long term.”
Ingo Weiss, DBB President on the partnership:
“What a time! 20 years of partnership between DBB and ING. That’s just great. Together we have done a lot for our beautiful sport in the past two decades. I am very pleased that the partnership will continue and that we know that ING will be by our side in the years to come. This is once again a great sign of confidence, which allows us to look very positively to the future.”
Partnership has existed for 20 years
ING Germany has been the main sponsor of the German Basketball Association since May 1, 2003 and supports not only the national teams but also youth work. The contract term was last extended in 2019 to September 30, 2024 and is now being extended early to September 30, 2028. Since June 2005, the bank has also been the main sponsor of the German national wheelchair basketball team. With the ING 3×3 German Championship, DBB and ING have been bringing the 3×3 streetball variant to public spaces in major German cities since 2017.
