50,000 euro donation for the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation Dirk Nowitzki statue unveiled in front of ING headquarters in Frankfurt

Frankfurt am Main, 12 October – ING Germany and Dirk Nowitzki celebrated the anniversary of their 20-year partnership with a donation to social projects and the unveiling of a statue in Frankfurt am Main. Nick Jue, CEO of ING Germany, presented Dirk Nowitzki with a symbolic check for 50,000 euros for the work of the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation. The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation helps children and young people to make the most of their opportunities and to recognize and develop their potential. Through sports and games, they experience community and develop social skills in a playful way.

Nick Jue, CEO of ING in Germany on the partnership:

“The 20-year partnership between ING and Dirk Nowitzki is unique. Started as a classic advertising contract, it was expanded to include sporting, community and social engagements. We are very grateful to Dirk for the time we spent together and the great projects and are pleased to support his great foundation commitment with the donation.”

Dirk Nowitzki on the partnership:

“There have been many great moments and projects with ING over the 20 years that I look back on fondly. I am particularly pleased that our partnership is making a difference: it helps children and young people discover what they are made of and learn to make the most of their opportunities. In sport and in life. I really appreciate the bank’s commitment and commitment over the years.”

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary, a Dirk Nowitzki sculpture was unveiled in front of the headquarters of ING Germany at Theodor-Heuss-Allee 2 in Frankfurt. The statue by the Berlin sculptor Andreas Artur Hoferick consists of a bench on which Dirk Nowitzki sits as a life-size bronze figure. The statue invites everyone walking by to take a seat right next to the NBA legend.

The advertising contract became a “lifetime partnership”

ING Germany’s collaboration with Dirk Nowitzki began on May 1, 2003, at the same time as he became the main sponsor of the German Basketball Association. In 2017, a permanent contract (“lifetime partnership”) was concluded that extends beyond the active sporting career. This places a focus on community and social commitments as well as the possible presence of Dirk Nowitzki in the bank’s advertising communications. Joint projects between ING and the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation include the “Champions for Charity” charity football games and the “BasKIDball” sports initiative. This offers students free basketball training and pedagogically supported educational opportunities at 23 locations throughout Germany.
