Taylor Hayes he scored two of four US goals in the first half by winning 9-0 against Switzerland tonight in Herning. The win puts the United States on a par with Canada and prepares the clash between the North Americans tomorrow night for first place in Group A and what could be a preview of Sunday’s gold medal match.
Heise was joined in the club by two goals from Ilario Cavaliere, who scored his first two goals of the tournament and the 48th and 49th of his career. He also scored the 82nd and 83rd points of his career, closing the record for Hayley Wickenhesier (86 points), which now appears threatened.
Maddie Rooney she only had to save four shots (1-2-1) to record her fourth career stoppage in five games at the Women’s World Championship. It is now 5-0 in World Cup history and she has conceded only one goal. The two Swiss goalkeepers faced a barrage of 57 shots at the other end of the track.
The Swiss are now on par with Finland with three points each and will also play tomorrow in what will be the match for third / fourth place in the group. It’s also a potential warm-up for what many see as the match for the bronze medal later in the week.
However, the Swiss played a great mid-game match for 20 minutes, containing the American attack and getting some decent possessions on their side. But overall a landslide victory for the Americans and a night to forget for the Swiss.
