Information on Registering for the Winter Semester in Dresden

Because the winter semester begins in October and thousands of first-year students are expected in Dresden, the Citizens’ Office provides information on how to organize registration. It is possible in any of Dresden’s ten citizens’ offices, regardless of the district in which you live. In this way, a concentration on the old town and Plauen citizens’ offices, which experience has shown to be used most by students, should be avoided.
Before visiting a citizens’ office, an appointment must be booked online. This is possible at termine-buergerbuero.dresden.de. If there are no appointments available, unfortunately they are all already taken. Without an appointment, but with an indefinite waiting time, you can call at the citizens’ offices in Altstadt, Blasewitz, Cotta, Klotzsche, Leuben, Neustadt, Plauen and Prohlis on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Due to staff training, it will be closed on September 15th, 18th and 19th and November 23rd.
When registering, all students should have the pre-filled registration form, the accommodation provider confirmation and their identity document ready. The forms can be found on the citizens’ offices website at www.dresden.de/anmelden
The obligation to register arises from the Federal Registration Act, Section 17, Paragraph 1. Anyone who moves to Dresden or changes residence within the city must register within two weeks.
