Parkinson’s disease affects more than 63,000 people in the Netherlands. The impact of this disease is great, both for the person and for those around him. To gain more control over your own control with Parkinson’s, Onis Welzijn is organizing an information evening on Monday, November 25 at 3 pm at De Weijers community center in Someren. This event offers support, insight and practical advice for patients and their loved ones. Entry is free.
During the evening, several experts will speak, each sharing valuable information from their specialism:
- Hanny Bouwmans, an exercise therapist specializing in Parkinson’s disease, explains the importance of exercise and how regular exercise can contribute to a stable course of the disease.
- Loes van Melis, coordinator of the Informal Care Support Centre, talks about the support available to loved ones of Parkinson’s patients. She is also ready to answer questions about informal care and practical help.
- Maud Douven from the Self-Help Network Foundation explains how self-help groups work and how they can contribute to a sense of connection and support for patients and their family members.
Support and information for a growing demand
The city’s support worker Loes van der Weerden explains that there is a need for more information about Parkinson’s disease. “Not only are more people dealing with this diagnosis, but we also notice that questions and needs are increasing. Together with colleague Cindy Manders, we want to find out what people really need, so that we can provide targeted help,” says Van der Weerden.
