Mexico City. Starting today, Infonavit will freeze the balance and monthly payments of 2 million housing loans that were granted by the institute before 2013, when a payment scheme was managed by Times Minimum Wages (VSM), which made them “unpayable.” the debts.
This was announced on the presidential morning by the head of that body, Octavio Romero Oropeza.
He explained that Infonavit has a portfolio of 6.2 million mortgage loans, of which 64 percent of the total (4 million) was designed under the VSM scheme “in which even though the beneficiary complied with his payments, the payment of His debt and monthly payments increased every year, making it an unpayable debt.”
For this reason, he pointed out that by instructions from President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, starting today the balances and monthly payments will be frozen for 2 million beneficiaries who have a mortgage loan.
He explained that, for example, if a beneficiary obtained a loan in 2010, with an initial monthly payment balance of 1,500 pesos, by this date his monthly payment is around 3,200 pesos – where it will be frozen – and if he does not do so, Towards the end of the loan the person would be paying 8,615 pesos per month.
“The freeze consists of stopping the monthly payment here and keeping it going forward.”
Additionally, of these 2 million beneficiaries who will benefit from the freezes, half a million of them will automatically receive additional benefits.
“They will have a reduction in rate or monthly payment and in some cases a discount on balances, automatically,” said the head of Infonavit.
For the remaining 1,500,000 people, “we are asking them to go to the Infonavit service centers so that they can obtain additional benefits to which they can have access.”
To this end, starting next week these additional benefits will be available on the Institute’s website.
Romero Oropeza added that in a few weeks additional benefits will be presented for the other 2 million beneficiaries who have their credit under the scheme that operated from 2014 to 2020, which was similar to the VSM.
“Before the end of this year we will be benefiting 4 million families, in accordance with the instructions given by the president,” he noted.
