Infonavit Expands Eligibility Criteria for Retiree Support Program to Alleviate Burden of Monthly Loan Payments

The Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit) made the eligibility criteria of the Retiree Support program more flexible for retired workers who are paying a loan at the institute, to alleviate the burden of monthly payments and not affect their pockets.

Carlos Martínez, general director of Infonavit, explained that the program will allow the monthly financing payment amount to be reduced to a level of 25 percent with respect to the pension amount, since it is usually lower than the salary obtained when they were still working, which has caused delays in credit payments.

“What this program does is adjust to 25 percent of your pension, that reduces the burden on you as a pensioner, you know that your assets are safe, maybe you only have a few monthly payments left to pay and you do it in payments that are really adapted to the needs they have,” he highlighted.

Among the main modifications, it stands out that previously the program was only applicable to credits called Minimum Wage Times (VSM), originated before October 29, 1999.

“Today it applies to all credits regardless of whether they are in VSM or pesos, or the date of origination,” the institute detailed.

With the adjustments to Support for Retirees, more than 134 thousand workers will be able to be beneficiaries, of which 65 thousand 319 still have their credit in VSM and 68 thousand 799 who have already converted it to pesos.

Who can apply?

Workers may apply to the program if they meet the following requirements:

• They are retired or pensioned people
• They stopped contributing to the IMSS or the ISSSTE
• They have paid at least 120 full monthly payments during the life of the loan
• Your credit is not in legal process
• The credit does not have an active permanent restructuring

To request support, retirees or pensioners must go to the Infonavit Service Center or the nearest Infonavit delegation, present a valid identification and the opinion of retirement or old-age pension, or unemployment at advanced age issued by the IMSS, ISSSTE, Afore or insurance company. to request it. It is also important that the credit is not close to being liquidated.
