At the end of last year, we learned that Apple was in negotiations to acquire the rights to a film on Formula 1 in which Brad Pitt would play. The deal is now sealed.
Not only will the actor play a role, but he will also be a producer (via his company Plan B Entertainment) alongside seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski, who is currently triumphing in the cinema. As a reminder, the scenario of this currently untitled feature film should revolve around a veteran pilot, a priori played by Pitt, who would come out of retirement to become the mentor of a young pilot, while seizing his last opportunity. to triumph on the track.
Building on the success of the Top Gun sequel, Kosinski will reunite with his screenwriter Ehren Kruger and his producers Chad Oman and Jerry Bruckheimer in this project, with the ambition of filming the races as much as possible in real conditions in order to immerse the viewer in them, like the movie with Tom Cruise. Apple, for its part, would like to make the release of this future film a real event, by offering, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a worldwide theatrical release before a streaming release on its Apple TV+ platform.
To do this, the firm is counting on the growing success of Formula 1 and its renewed popularity in the world in order to attract a large audience, as well as on seeing its project carried by an international star such as Brad Pitt and a world famous sportsman like Lewis Hamilton. The latter met Kosinski via Tom Cruise last year, but it is difficult to know at this stage how far his involvement in the production will go.
The agreement around this project would place its budget around 150 million dollars (about 140 million euros at the current exchange rate). And it is part of a package with another film project also carried by Brad Pitt, namely a thriller whose director would be Jon Watts and where Pitt would find George Clooney, with whom he notably played in the saga Ocean’s.
