Results that raise questions. The controls, ordered by the prefect of the North, in the Averroès Muslim high school leave one wondering about the capacity of the establishment’s teachers to carry out their mission with the students. Results which should push Georges-François Leclerc, the prefect of the North, to demand the end of the contract which binds the French State to the Averroès high school. According to information from Europe 1, the report highlights several failings on the part of the teaching body, such as obstruction during control.
The high school offers its students “Muslim ethics” courses which, according to the report, promote Salafist Islam. Even more disturbing, the second year students are studying works by the infamous imam Iquioussen, expelled in January for “inciting hatred and discrimination”. THE 40 hadiths from Imam An Nawawi also serve as educational support for the establishment’s teachers.
This text teaches its readers that it is “forbidden for a sick woman to be examined by a man”, or even “that, unless necessary, women must not mix with men in their workplace”. The work also prohibits apostasy under penalty of death. A set of lessons that the report describes as being “in complete contradiction with republican values”.
A worrying educational community
The report paints an edifying portrait of the educational staff in place in the high school. In 2016, the deputy director Makhlouf Mameche positioned himself “against secularism and for a global Islamic state”. To achieve this goal, he asks the faithful to “work in secret”. For several years, the press has presented him as one of the key players in “the Islamization of youth educated in private schools by the Muslim Brotherhood.”
Other members of the educational community include Mohamed Karrat and Sofiane Meziani. The first is the author in 2014 of a sermon against Israel, which was described as “a fascist, barbaric and monstrous state”. The second is the author of an article dating from 2016 entitled “Ending French democracy“.
Loans that raise questions
Inspection checks also point to a distribution between girls and boys in class, the absence of reference to music theory in music lessons, because it is prohibited according to a rigorist vision of Islam, or even “a relativity scientific facts taught in SVT, particularly on evolution”. Finally, the financing of the high school is also called into question. The establishment is suspected of benefiting from disguised donations, in the form of unrepaid loans.
Last year, the Islamic Center of Villeneuve d’Ascq incurred a debt of 245,000 euros against the school. However, the center still granted a new loan of 75,000 euros to the establishment.
