The first received 40 doses of the approximately 120 he was expecting yesterday, reaching about 350 patients. The doctor reported that the packages do not have the needle. A doctor’s office in which a group of five professionals works explains that only two of the doctors have received their doses, the other three have not, and they also complain because there are no needles. A doctor explains that she has not even received a dose and that together with a colleague she had decided to organize a session for a large group of patients in an open football field and that now she risks having to move. Updating appointments and calendars is not easy, you have to contact all the clients. Assistants who have been pestering their doctors with calls and phone calls and messages for weeks.
There are doctors whose answering machine is now categorical: “We have not made an appointment because they still haven’t delivered the vaccines.” It is now difficult for white coats to respond to requests. There are patients who give out, they ask why they have not received the vaccine when the neighbor has already been vaccinated.
Two other doctors yesterday received part of the supplies, about a quarter of the total. It should be remembered that at the end of October, first 30, then 20 and 30 more doses per week arrived for each doctor. Everyone started with the most fragile, the enticed. Called some pharmacies in Como, which have the task of passing the doses to the doctors, some explain that they have received part of the loads, while others have remained dry. Pharmacists say that the first batches of doses between October and November were ready for delivery, within 24 hours. Now wholesalers have about a week to get the vaccines to every pharmacy. So the hope is that all doses will arrive soon. As for the needles, the pharmacists always explain, they must be ordered separately in a different package and then assembled one by one. Always if the wholesalers have sent them. After this tranche of vaccines the remainder is expected by the end of November, there is still no date announced. The last doses, about a third, should also serve to cover the less at risk groups of the population, the frail are already followed by the hospital. So people between 60 and 64 if they actually advance vaccines.
