“Influenza Outbreak in Santa Cruz: Eighth Victim Confirmed and Alarming Decrease in Vaccinations”

The Santa Cruz Departmental Health Service (Sedes) released the official report on influenza cases, confirming that the eighth victim of the disease was recorded in the last few hours.

According to the Headquarters report, to date 1,600 positive cases of influenza have been reported, of which 40% have been registered in the last three weeks. Hurtado has highlighted that an abrupt epidemic is taking place in this period.

In relation to the victims, Carlos Hurtado, Epidemiology manager, reported that the last two people who died did so in the last 24 hours. The new deceased had not received the vaccine and had a renal and cardiac pathology, which complicated his general condition and unfortunately he lost his life.

He has also pointed out that the eight victims of influenza did not have the vaccine, being six men and two women, and six of them over 60 years of age.

In addition, the data provided by the Headquarters in relation to vaccination is worrying, since a decrease in the number of immunized people has been observed and for the third consecutive day the population has not gone to the health centers in search of the dose.

Faced with this situation, the health authorities call on the population to get vaccinated and take the necessary preventive measures, such as frequent hand washing and the use of masks, especially to protect the most vulnerable groups, such as the elderly. and those with chronic illnesses. It is essential to increase vaccination coverage and contain the spread of influenza in the region.
