Influenza Outbreak in Panama: 22 Deaths Confirmed, Risk Factors and Regions Affected

Panama City/Five new deaths from iinfluence (4 type A and 1 type B) were confirmed in the country by the Ministry of Health.

The NNew deaths increased to 22 the accumulated number of deaths In Panama. They are 13 men and 9 women, in the age range between 4 and 82 years. None of the deceased had received the influenza vaccine.

Regions where deaths have been recorded

These deaths correspond to the regions of Health, Metropolitan with seven (7) deaths; West Panama with four (4); North Panama with three (3), San Miguelito with two (2) deaths, Chiriquí with two (2) deaths and one death, there are the regions of Salud de Colón, Darién, Veraguas and one with residence in San Miguelito, but he was confined in East Panama (Chepo).

Risk factors for deaths

90% of the deceased (20 of 22) had risk factors such as: diabetes, hypertension, obesity, obesity, pulmonary, renal, neurological, immunosuppression among other diseases. Of the 22 deceased, 18 were not vaccinated.
