Influenza, gastroenteritis: Occitania on alert

Fever, chills, tiredness or body aches… Beware of the flu, the number of cases of which has greatly increased in Occitania but also in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, in the Pays de la Loire and in Île-de-France.

A total of 1,787 people went to the emergency room for influenza or flu-like illness in one week, compared to 1,219 the previous week. 160 people were hospitalized (95 the previous week). 47 serious cases of influenza have also been identified since November 4.

Vaccination is still the best way to protect yourself from the flu and its complications. It is specified that 15 days are necessary after vaccination to be protected.

For its part, gastroenteritis is also gaining ground. Acute diarrhea was estimated at 177 per 100,000 people last week, from December 16 to 22. The activity of acute diarrhea has been steadily increasing in recent weeks.

The average age of the cases was 28 years. 48% of them are men. The condition of the patients was mostly harmless: the percentage of hospitalizations was estimated at 0.3%. In recent weeks, incidence rates have been increasing in all age groups, specifies the Sentinelles network, with the exception of that of people aged 65 and over.
