Annual recommendations for influenza vaccination in autumn-winter are established for those population groups with a higher risk of complications in the event of influenza infection and for people who can transmit the virus to others who are at high risk of complications. Since the 2021-2022 season, influenza vaccination has coincided with COVID-19 vaccination.
On July 18, 2024, the Public Health Commission approved the RRecommendations for vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 in the 2024-2025 season in Spain.
The orMain objective of vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 is to strengthen the protection of the most vulnerable people in order to reduce morbidity and mortality, as well as to reduce the impact of these infections on the capacity of health and social care.
It is recommended that COVID-19 and influenza vaccines be administered together. In addition, these vaccines can also be administered simultaneously with other vaccines.
The commitment of healthcare personnel organizations, unions, professional associations and scientific societies to seasonal vaccination should be strengthened, urging them to convey to their members the recommendation for vaccination out of ethical responsibility towards the people at risk whom they care for.
This vaccination is carried out as a result of a decision by the public health authority, due to an epidemiological risk and in order to preserve the public health and that of people at higher risk of developing complications from these diseases, which is why they do not require a diagnosis or prior prescription.
