THE ONLINE NEWSPAPER: On Thursday evening, influencer Emilie Nereng (26) posted an advertisement from Skjolden Hotell on her Instagram profile. In the photo and video, you can see a wine glass standing on the table, from which Nereng also takes a sip.
In Norway, it is not allowed to advertise alcoholic beverages or allow alcohol to be included in advertising for anything else. This means that a wine glass should be kept outside an advertisement.
In front of Nettavisen, the Directorate of Health informs that they ask actors who break the law to remove the content.
– Vulnerable groups
The Norwegian Directorate of Health says they cannot comment on individual incidents, but nevertheless provides information on the rules that apply to marketing and advertising on social media.
One of the points is, among other things, that one should not: “allow alcoholic beverages to be included in the marketing of other goods or services”.
– This rule is important so that it will be more difficult to circumvent it, and that alcohol should not be used in marketing towards vulnerable groups, such as children, says department director in the Norwegian Directorate of Health, Øyvind Giæver.
Furthermore, they state that they have the right to issue fines:
– The Directorate can order actors to remove or rectify the offence, and if this does not happen, we can issue fines. Most of them comply with notices from us.
Clear about arranging
Nettavisen has been in contact with Emilie Nereng, who says that she is aware of the rules around advertising and alcohol.
– I am very careful not to include labels or bottles, both on paid and unpaid content, says Nereng to Nettavisen.
The influencer admits at the same time that she has learned something new.
– I have been made aware that I should also be careful about including wine glasses in general, regardless of what is in the glass and will take care of this in the future, she says.
