Andrew Tate remains detained in Romania for the time being. The influencer and former kickboxer lost his appeal on Tuesday to be released. The controversial British American was arrested in late December on charges of human trafficking and rape, among other things.
After his arrest on December 29, the Romanian court ruled that Tate should be detained for at least 30 days. Romanian authorities feared that Tate would flee the country in an attempt to avoid punishment. Her attempt to have his detention lifted through an appeal therefore failed. The 36-year-old influencer denies all allegations.
Tate’s brother Tristan and two Romanians were also arrested. Prosecutors believe they are behind a criminal organization “aimed at recruiting, harboring and exploiting women by forcing them to produce pornography that can be viewed online for a fee.” The Tate brothers would have made a lot of money out of it.
The criminal investigation has been ongoing since the beginning of this year. Prosecutors identified at least six women who were allegedly sexually exploited by the suspects.
The Tate has been infamous for years for its controversial statements. He was discredited in 2016 when he was removed from the UK version of the TV show Big Brother he was put because he was recorded as assaulting a woman. He gained a lot of fame online due to that action.
Also, the former kickboxer has been discredited in the past due to hateful comments towards women. He has been banned from social media platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. His Twitter account has since been reinstated after new owner Elon Musk took office.
