Despite the migration of children and young people to more modern screens and devices, traditional or free-to-air television continues to be the most consumed at home during childhood. The results of an investigation carried out among students of Primary Education are exposed, with the aim of analyzing, from the perspective of the students, the influence that the family exerts on consumption, viewing of programs, as well as on the process of choice and reception of their children’s television content. The study is encompassed within a quantitative approach, non-experimental design, the data collection instrument being a questionnaire. The results show, among other aspects, that when faced with television consumption, schoolchildren reveal their parents’ preferences when selecting television programming and it is verified how the educational level and family model influence the time of consumption. In conclusion, the important role that the family plays in the use and type of television consumption of schoolchildren stands out.
