The data arises from the survey carried out monthly by the Institute for the Promotion of Argentine Beef (IPCVA) on prices in butcher shops and supermarkets in Greater Buenos Aires and the Federal Capital. A noticeable drop was observed after the 30.2% in August and 19.4% in September that had marked beef cuts.

If the price of beef in butcher shops is analyzed, it showed increases of 2.5% during October 2023, and 164.9% compared to the same month in 2022. On the other hand, the average price in supermarkets showed a variation of 0.1% compared to the previous month and 157.7% compared to October 2022.

The other meats showed aligned behaviors: pork breast $160.4 (7.5%) and whole chicken $177.6 (16.2%) are cheaper in supermarkets. For its part, the price of the average beef in this market surveyed shows a variation of 14.8% compared to the previous month and 183.5% versus October 2022.

The average increase in October was 1.7%

On the other hand, in the first ten months of the year, beef had a significantly lower relative price (-14%) than that recorded a year ago compared to poultry meat. “In 2022, 3.4 kilograms of whole fresh chicken could be purchased with one kilogram of roast and in the last 10 months the purchasing capacity was reduced to 2.9 kilograms,” they explained.
