“Inflation in April 2021: Meat, Dairy, Bread, and Grains Drive Up Prices, European Harmonized Consumer Price Index (HICP)”

Meat, dairy products, bread and grains, restaurants and cafes, vegetables and clothing in particular drove up inflation in April. Gas, electricity, domestic heating oil, fuels, audio and video equipment and telecommunications had a decreasing impact.

In addition to the national consumer price index, Statbel also calculates a European harmonized consumer price index (Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, or HICP). The HICP allows a comparison between the inflation levels of the Member States of the European Union.
