Infinix Zero 30: A Powerful and Affordable Upper-Middle Class Phone with Impressive Features

Infinix Zero 30 is a new phone that will try to torment the competition in the upper-middle class
The equipment offers a powerful Dimensity 8020 chipset, 68W fast charging or a very capable selfie camera
It enters the Czech market at the end of September with a price of CZK 8,999 including VAT

The Chinese company Infinix today launched its new flagship in the upper-middle class segment in Venice, Italy. The Infinix Zero 30 5G is a phone that definitely impresses not only with its eye-catching design, but also with its equipment and several very special functions, which are aimed at the young, active generation. We, as the only Czech newsroom, were invited to Venice and can therefore offer you exclusive first impressions of using this device.

Design first

The Infinix Zero 30 wants to impress at first glance – and it succeeds, mainly thanks to the exemplary choice of color options and materials on the back. The golden version of Golden Hour is the most pleasing to the eye, which is supposed to take its inspiration from the so-called golden hour, i.e. the first or, on the contrary, the last hour when the sun is above the horizon before it sets, or shortly after it has risen.

The gold variant, which we also have available, has a back cover made of durable 5th generation Gorilla Glass with a matte finish that is excellent at resisting fingerprints. The photo module in the upper part of the back is covered with plastic. The same applies to the purple variant Fantasy Purple. The green Rome Green version is different, which has a back covered with vegan leather, which is also very pleasant to the touch.

The dimensions of the smartphone are otherwise relatively conventional, so it does not deviate from the standards in this price class. it does not cut anything when held in the hand and the grip is also comfortable. However, you have to keep in mind that this is not a compact machine. This is also confirmed by the tabular dimensions: 164.5 x 75 x 7.9 millimeters and a weight of 196 grams. I also want to praise the solid monolithic aluminum construction.

Display and other equipment

There is a large 6.78″ display on the front, which also slightly overflows to the sides. The view of the display is partially disturbed only by the titration hole in the upper part – the chin is aligned with the surrounding 2.8 millimeter frames. The screen is specifically of the AMOLED type, it offers a completely sufficient Full HD+ resolution and also an extremely pleasant 144Hz refresh rate.

A more demanding user can choose directly in the settings whether he is more comfortable with a 60Hz frequency, 120Hz or dynamic, which also saves the battery. I manually forced the highest 144Hz right after turning it on, and I can’t complain about this experience. However, the brightness of the display left a worse impression on me, which Infinix generally does not have very good with its phones. A common value is around 500 nits, the highest then 950 nits. Tested on a clear day in Venice and it must be admitted that the screen is very difficult to read in places under these conditions.

Limits associated with screen brightness are compensated by high-quality and powerful hardware equipment. The main word is the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 chipset, which guarantees the smooth operation of the system, the quick launch of applications and, finally, the performance for playing games. By the way, the Mali-G77 graphics unit and a superior RAM of 12 GB, which can be virtually expanded up to 21 GB, also help him. The robustness is also demonstrated by the results in popular benchmarks: it scored 704,338 points in AnTuTu, 960 Single-Core points and 2,955 Multi-Core points in Geekbench.

In addition to the chipset, a 5000mAh lithium-polymer battery found a place under the hood. It supports up to 68W cable charging. According to our measurements, the phone can be charged to 50% in a nice 15 minutes, and it takes about 40 minutes to fully charge.

There are also wired headphones in the package, even if they are ear buds

The good news is that the charger is included in the box – along with the phone itself, a USB-C / USB-A cable, a plastic case and a pair of USB-C earphones. Wireless charging isn’t available, but that’s a price the lower price tag has to pay.

Artificial intelligence in the system

The equipment also inherently includes 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, GPS, a slot for two nanoSIM cards or a fingerprint reader in the display. The phone also offers stereo speakers, which play quite decently compared to the competition, loud enough, however, my aesthetic sense suffers when looking at the top and bottom edges of the phone – the speaker openings are different and it doesn’t look nice at all.

The Infinix Zero 30 comes with Android 13 and the June 2023 security patch. The XOS 13 graphics superstructure is quite impressive, it ranks in this respect with other Chinese superstructures. It bets a lot on its own native apps and widgets; if this is close to you, you will be thrilled.

A special feature of Folax, which is a voice assistant and an automatic translator in one, deserves a mention. Infinix claims that Folax uses ChatGPT to quickly search for features through the Smart Search engine and can also generate wallpapers using artificial intelligence. Folax already works pretty well, comparable to Apple’s Siri, but the manufacturer is hinting that even more features for the AI assistant will arrive in the future via an update.

A camera with several specialties

In a modern module on the back, the novelty from Infinix offers a trio of cameras. The main 108Mpx is intended for a wide range of uses, from day and night photos, through portraits, to images in full resolution of 9,000 × 12,000 pixels. There is also optical image stabilization and phase focus. Test images from all cameras can be found in the gallery – we will pay more attention to them in the review we are already preparing for you.

A 13 Mpx wide-angle camera with a 120° angle of view and a 2 Mpx additional camera will also come in handy, which is not for macro, as one might think, but helps with portrait shots. The smartphone will also appeal to budding amateur filmmakers, as it offers several modes for video, including an elongated film ratio of 2.35:1 or 21:9. 4K and Full HD at 30, but also 60 fps are a matter of course.

Tip: all test images in full resolution can be found here

Fans of selfies are the main target of the Zero 30 model. The front sensor therefore has a 50 Mpx resolution, although it takes 12.4 Mpx photos by default. The tiny LED hidden in the upper frame, which you can use in really dark conditions, seems a bit like an epiphany. The front camera deserves a lot of praise for its 4K video at 30 and 60 fps, although it can only achieve better stabilization at Full HD 30 fps. The same with regard to stabilization also applies to the main assembly.

Price and availability

The brand new Infinix Zero 30 is a real pike in the middle, that is, upper-middle class. It offers very reliable equipment and enters the market with a downright aggressive price tag. According to our information, it will arrive on the Czech and actually also the Slovak market at the end of September or at the beginning of October. The price was set at CZK 8,999 including VAT and it is a 12/256 GB variant.
