According to him, the new version of Omicron probably originates from sub-Saharan Africa – Nigeria, Congo and Botswana. “In these countries, a virus can stay for a long time and create its own mutations and then a new variant. Omicron infects very quickly, mutates with parts of the cell surface. This is the danger of a large number of infected people,” he said.
The doctor explained that the main symptom is severe general fatigue.
According to him, the coronavirus has no pronounced seasonality, demographic characteristics are different. People of all ages are affected. “This virus has mutated so that it is quite dangerous for humans, but one day it will soon destroy itself,” said the doctor. He added that reactions after vaccination mean that it works.
“The more serious part is the complications. So far, two have been proven – thrombosis and myocarditis,” said Dr. Popov.
On the topic of the outbreak of meningitis in a kindergarten in Sofia, the infectious disease specialist revealed that there is nothing terrible in meningitis, and it is likely that children and teachers will have it asymptomatically. “One should not be vaccinated when there is a risk of developing the disease. There is a vaccine, but it is not used everywhere, it is recommended. It is treated with antibiotics,” he said.
According to him, meningitis occurs in asymptomatic form or as a common cold in 80% of people.
