In Great Britain filming is in progress for well-known productions like “Games of Thrones” or “Star Wars”. Tom Cruise is also there. The delta variant of the corona virus doesn’t care a bit. The reports of infections on the film sets are increasing.

The corona pandemic has permanently changed the film and series industry worldwide. Cinemas were or are still closed. Many film starts have been postponed, and filming for various productions is taking place under difficult conditions due to the crisis. In many places there are extensive safety precautions on the sets, but actors or team members are repeatedly tested positive for the corona virus as part of the work.

This often means that the shoots can only be continued to a limited extent or even have to pause completely. Especially in Great Britain, there has been an increasing number of corona cases on the sets in the past few weeks. And now the Corona restrictions were lifted in England on July 19th today.

Currently, for example, the shooting of the “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” has to pause, as reported by the industry website “Deadline”. Accordingly, the cameras have been idle for a few days and will remain off until Tuesday. From July 21st, filming will start again. Either an actor or a member of the crew had therefore tested positive. The person affected and all production members who have been in close contact with the person should be in quarantine.

First “Games of Thrones”, then “Bridgerton”

Shortly before, it became known that the Netflix hit “Bridgerton”, which is also filmed in England, is affected. After a positive test by a crew member, work paused, but started again shortly afterwards. After another corona case, the shoot should be however according to “Deadline” currently be hired indefinitely. Even here it is unclear who exactly is affected, but since it could apparently be a longer break, one of the actors could possibly be ill.

July 18th “Deadline” also reportedthat part of the Netflix version “Matilda” produced in Great Britain is currently suspended due to a corona case. The production is therefore divided into two units. While one is currently able to continue working on the adaptation of Roald Dahl’s (1916-1990) children’s novel with Emma Thompson (62) and Lashana Lynch (33), the other should be out for up to ten days.

Truce in the “Star Wars”

A “Star Wars” production also apparently had to struggle with the pandemic recently. At the beginning of July, the British “The Sun” reportedthat two crew members on the set of “Andor” are said to have tested positive for the virus. Others are said to have complained about symptoms. 24 employees on the series with Diego Luna (41) planned for the streaming service Disney + for 2022 had to go into self-isolation.
