More than half of the city and rural districts in Baden-Württemberg are now over 50 with a corona incidence. There are also more intensive care patients again.
The State Health Office reported 1,633 new corona infections on Tuesday for Baden-Württemberg – more than since the end of May. The seven-day incidence also climbed above the 50 mark for the first time in months – to 52.7.
In 23 of the 44 urban and rural districts in Baden-Württemberg, the corona incidence is now over 50. The Rottweil district has the highest value (85.8).
According to the State Health Office, the significant increase in corona cases in recent weeks can also be traced back to vacationers who bring the virus to Baden-Württemberg from countries such as Turkey, Kosovo or Italy. A third of the new infections are now among those returning from travel.

More Covid patients again – but the situation is more relaxed than in spring
The incidence alone is no longer the central criterion for new corona restrictions in Baden-Württemberg. But other values are also increasing.
More people have to go to hospital again because of Covid 19 disease. According to the Divi Intensive Care Register, 92 corona patients are currently in intensive care units in Baden-Württemberg. That is 34 more than on Tuesday a week ago. “We are at the beginning of a fourth wave,” said the medical director of the Mittelbaden Clinic in Baden Baden, Thomas Iber. Most of the patients in the clinic are under 70 years old and have no vaccination protection. The situation is still much more relaxed than in spring.
The intensive care physician Uwe Janssens has a similar assessment. Janssens, who is a member of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI), said in the SWR: “We have enough free intensive care beds at the moment.” But autumn is approaching, then there may be increasing numbers again in the intensive care units.
The intensive care physician advocates a three-tone assessment when assessing the situation
When assessing the situation, Janssens advocates a so-called three-tone: “Incidence, hospital admissions, intensive care beds – these are the three core elements.” However, the intensive care doctor indicated that the latter two would appear significantly later than the incidence. Therefore, all three values should be kept in mind.
3.3 percent of the operable intensive care beds in the country are currently occupied by Covid 19 sufferers. The hospital occupancy rate – the so-called seven-day hospitalization incidence – was 1.5 on Tuesday (previous day: 1.31).

High vaccination rate, especially among the elderly
58.7 percent of the population in Baden-Württemberg are now fully vaccinated. There are clear differences according to age groups. 82.4 percent of those over 60 years of age now have complete vaccination protection. For 12 to 17 year olds, this only applies to one in five.
