The negative trend in the corona numbers in Austria continued at the weekend. The health and interior ministries reported 4,363 new infections within 24 hours on the national holiday. A week ago, this value was 5,810 new cases. The 4,363 new infections are below the average of 5,721 over the past seven days. The seven-day incidence continued to fall from 462.1 to 446 cases per 100,000 population in one day.
The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vienna with 598.7, followed by Lower Austria, Burgenland and Upper Austria (569.7, 514.7 and 390.3 respectively). Then come Carinthia (366.7), Salzburg (355.4), Styria (322.1), Vorarlberg (303.5) and Tyrol (270.7). As of Sunday there were 77,269 active corona cases in Austria, 2,578 fewer than the day before.
There is also good news from the hospitals: there are currently 1,229 people with Covid 19 in the hospital. Here, too, the number fell by 18 patients. The number of people who had to be treated in intensive care because of SARS-CoV-2 was 83. This number has fallen by four since Saturday and by 38 patients within a week. Last weekend there were still well over 100 patients on the ICU.
There have been five deaths since Saturday. The seven-day average was 16.3 per day. 114 deaths have been registered in the past seven days. Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 18,161 lives in Austria since it broke out. The Agency for Health and Food Security (AGES) dashboard shows 19,679 deaths.
A total of 83.39 rapid PCR and antigen tests were reported in the past 24 hours. Of these, 78,990 were meaningful PCR tests. All in all, there are now more than 236 million corona tests carried out. The positive rate of the PCR tests was 5.5 percent, which is above last week’s average (3.1 percent).
A little more vaccinations than last Saturday were carried out yesterday. 1,846 stitches were administered, of which only 66 were first stitches, 227 were second stitches and 1,553 were third stitches. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,822,992 people have already received at least one vaccination. That’s 76 percent of the population. 6,125,305 people and thus 68.2 percent of Austrians have valid vaccination protection.
The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland at 74.5 percent. In Lower Austria 70.5 percent of the population have a valid vaccination protection, in Styria 69 percent. After Vienna (67.1), Tyrol (66.2), Carinthia (65.1), Salzburg (64.3) and Vorarlberg (64.3), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 64 percent.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have already been 4,144,906 confirmed cases in Austria. Of these, 4,049,476 people have recovered. (apa)
